My desire as an academic scholar to succeed in my studies was brought about through serving others. What is the use of success if one does nothing for her community? For me, giving back to my community by helping others is of the utmost importance. I want to see others reach their full potential, and I do this through tutoring. I had the benefit of knowing caring people who made time to teach me many things, including encouraging me and instilling in me self-confidence, motivation, and independence. These are valuable characteristics and, equipped with them, I developed into a self-determined person with the belief and courage to set goals and achieve them. The saying, "Service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy," sums up my personal philosophy. I believe service is important as it provides fulfillment and meaning in one's life. Tutoring is my way of serving my community. I tutor many subjects, including elementary math, pre-algebra, science, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and biology. I also help students with test prep for the ACT, GED, and GRE.
