Experience
Too often the relationship between the student and the teacher is one of intimidating authority, and there is so much potential to maximize learning potential by instead treating it as a relationship between two equals. Students, especially younger ones, are much more responsive when working collaboratively and working alongside their friends. I try to be a figure that they can trust and open up to, and I have seen great success with this approach. I am currently in the process of earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina. I'm minoring in Computer Science and am considering a second minor in Neuroscience. In terms of teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to work as an online tutor for the past year, working with various middle school and high school students. I also have experience working with students face-to-face on an individual basis. I have ample experience helping first-year college students make the transition into more difficult studies, and I've also worked with many adult students. One of my specialties and something I have enjoyed mastering over the years is preparing my students to score well when taking various standardized tests, especially the SAT.
