Sarah T.
Private tutor in Miami, FL
Education
I earned my BA from Johns Hopkins University in Writing Seminars and French in 2008; an MA in English from the University of Cincinnati in 2010; and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Florida in 2013.
Experience
I am dedicated to helping students of all levels improve their reading and writing skills as well as become more comfortable in reading and writing situations. I've been teaching writing and literature at the university level for six years, including courses in English Composition, Technical Writing, Research Writing, and Poetry. I've worked with a diverse range of students while teaching at the University of Cincinnati, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami. For the past year, I've worked in the Writing Center at the University of Miami, where I've tutored students from undergraduates working on graduate school essays to PhD students working on computer science dissertations. I spent two weeks training at the Writing Center in the best tutoring practices, and received positive feedback from every student. I think that being a tutor is engaging and fulfilling work, and it makes me so happy to see students improve. I think that one-on-one tutoring sessions are the most effective way to help students improve their reading and writing skills, and even when I'm teaching larger courses, I encourage students to meet with me one-on-one in office hours for additional help. I am a professional writer, with poems, book reviews, and articles in international publications such as the London Review of Books, the Miami Rail, The Nation, The Paris Review, and the Times Literary Supplement. I spent a year in professional writing-teacher-training at the University of Cincinnati, and I earned an A in both Teaching Practicum and Teaching College Writing. I studied English, American, and French Literature at the graduate and undergraduate level for eight years, including courses in Medieval and Renaissance Literature; Shakespeare; Romanticism; 19th-century literature; Modernism; and 20th-century fiction and poetry.

Hobbies
I love reading and writing of all kinds! My favorite essayists are David Foster Wallace and Joan Didion, and I have too many favorite poets and novelists to count. I love teaching students of all ages, and I've spent time teaching poetry in places from elementary schools to prisons. I'm from a tiny town called Dingmans Ferry, PA, but I love being in the city and have since lived in Cincinnati, Baltimore, and, of course, Miami. I'm currently re-reading The Odyssey (seriously), and during the summer months I spend a lot of time snorkeling on Key Biscayne.
