Experience

Hello, my name is Daniel. As an undergrad, I studied at Oxford University, where I served as staff writer and deputy editor of Oxford University’s most widely published newspaper, The Oxford Student. My expertise is in reading, writing (especially for college admissions), and elementary piano and music theory. I have a special passion for language, and provide tutoring on all aspects of the written word, whether it involve reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, critical thinking, or English literature. In the three years that I've been tutoring, one of the things I find most stimulating is the variety of students I get to work with. I tutor students from diverse educational backgrounds, helping them to achieve their particular goals. During tutoring sessions, I aim to bring the material to life and keep students engaged. It is my belief that students learn best when they are excited about the material they are working on. This is why I always strive to make meetings as fun as possible, without compromising intellectual rigor. I believe that every student is different and has a unique way of learning; therefore, I strive to teach students in the manner that suits them best. Tutoring sessions are laid-back yet focused. In them, students and I work to identify problems and possible solutions. Often times, it can even be a lot of fun. Additionally, I scored in the 98th-percentile for both the Verbal and Written portions of the GRE, and provide tutoring on this exam, as well as the ACT, SAT, and GRE Subject Test in English Literature. I teach test-taking strategies that help my students maximize their scores and fulfill their potential on test day. Like many goal-oriented tutors, at the end of the day, I aim for results. I work closely with students to develop strategic plans to improve their writing and reading skills. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any inquires, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to accomplish your academic goals!
