Hobbies

I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I studied undergrad at the University of Maryland and majored in Psychology while also studying Environmental Science. I have a lot of recent experience in tutoring, mostly at a college level but would love to help any age! I took college level calculus and tutored others in algebra, statistics, and scored very highly on my ACT math (got a 32). Throughout high school, I initially took up tutoring as a way to earn some extra money after school. I thought it would be an easy job helping others in areas of math, history, and Spanish. Once I began to help others, I found that tutoring was much more rewarding than the pay I received. I was able to communicate to students a better way of learning a subject. I was able to make something that was once difficult, easy. When you can take information that is complicated to someone, and find a way to simplify it, you can help he or she use that lesson later on when it needs to be applied. My approach to tutoring is catered differently to each student. First I try to understand what about the material the student finds difficult or complicated. Each student is unique and has different strengths and weaknesses that effect the way he or she may approach a problem. I find that the best way to teach is by starting with examples and scenarios that apply to the person being tutored. For example, is better with memorizing than I teach with mnemonics. If a student learns things more visually than I would teach with diagrams. From there I focus on step by step procedures and models that one can use to understand the concepts and remember how to use them when being tested later on. From there it's, practice, practice, practice! I love helping people understand subjects that are hard to grasp and seeing that progress made! Flexible on the price per hour!
